Frequently Asked Questions

Does Ezy Homes have display homes?
We have supplied steel frame kit homes to many areas and may have one close to your area,
that you could possibly inspect. Just phone for more information regarding the nearest Ezy
Home to you.

What are the benefits of using steel to construct our homes?
 – Termite proof & fire resistant
 – Steel will not rot, shrink, twist, warp, split, crack or creep
 – Lower site costs - steel is 60% of the weight of wood framing
 – Less wastage - 2% in steel verses 20% in wood construction
 – We are able to build easily & economically in areas with poor building soil or high wind
 – Our steel comes with a BHP Steel guarantee

Can I make changes to your designs, or design my own home?
Yes. Ezy Homes use a post and beam design - which allows for a very open plan - and gives us
the ability to adapt your ideas into our cost effective structure. Many changes can be made to
our designs easily and economically.

Do we submit the house plans to the council?
We believe that this is the most important phase of the building process. We work with you through every step of the council approval process. To date we have never had a set of plans not approved (touch steel).  Depending on specific council requirements, approval could be as quick as 4 weeks.

How long does it take to manufacture the steel frame and have it delivered to site?
As each component is custom manufactured, taking 3 weeks to fabricate your steel frame kit.

How long does it take to build a steel frame kit home?
Once the frame kit is delivered (3 weeks after your site preparation), the erectors (a team of 3) erect, floor and roof the frame kit in only 5 days. It then takes about 3 weeks to reach the
lock-up stage. The balance of the house depends on how organised you are, and how much work you plan on doing yourself. Allow a total of 12-16 weeks for the entire project.

Can the average handy man build a steel frame kit home?
Yes. The “Islander” concept was designed for the handy man, with minimal tools, in a remote area or difficult location. Simply utilise local tradesmen for tasks that are beyond your skill level.

Can Ezy Homes build the home for me?
Ezy Homes is primarily a Brisbane based steel frame kit home supplier. We have a team of erectors who travel almost everywhere to install our frame kits for a small additional charge (excludes decking). We also have preferred builders who can take your home to lock up stage (depending on your location). You may choose to manage the completion of your home, or have
it managed for you for a small fee.

How much money will I save by being an owner/builder?
Owner/builders save approx 20 to 25% - depending on how much work you do yourself - and
depending on how hard you hunt for those bargains.

What are the other benefits of being an owner/builder?
 – Control of project - don’t be limited by your builder
 – Flexibility - last minute changes aren’t a problem when you are in control
 – Use your preferred tradesmen - perhaps you have family/friends in trades
 – No waiting time - work to your timeline, not a building companies
 – The final result is the home YOU want, how YOU want it

What will it cost to finish the home from lock-up stage to completion?
As a rule of thumb it will cost $30,000 to complete a 1 bedroom home, $50,000 for a 2 bedroom, $60,000 for a 3 bedroom - in addition to the lock-up stage cost. Naturally, the cost to complete is dependant on your individual taste and budget, and bear in mind that this amount can be reduced by completing some tasks yourself, eg painting the house yourself with save $5,000 - $7,000.
